(WSVN) – A Coast Guard crew from a station in Fort Myers Beach successfully rescued four people and their dog on Wednesday after their sailing vessel encountered treacherous conditions off Sanibel Island. (TMX) – A pair of sheriff’s deputies rescued a distressed manatee in Florida by standing in the water and holding its head up for two hours, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.When red tide levels were high a few weeks ago, the department’s Marine and Environmental Lands Unit received a call about a distressed manatee in the Intracoastal Waterway west of Tampa. Deputy Jill Constant arrived on the scene and immediately jumped into action.“This manatee is going to die right in front of us and I’m not letting that happen,” Constant said in PCSO’s Inside the Star newsletter.“We’re watching it, and it will not go underwater. It just stayed at the surface with labored breathing,” Constant said. Europe has seen more cases of locally acquired dengue in 2022 than the total number of cases in the previous decade, as heat waves and flooding allow invasive mosquitoes to establish themselves further north and west in the region.The data released Thursday by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is a stark warning that climate change, as well as factors such as migration and land-use change, appears to be contributing to the spread of mosquito-borne diseases on the Continent. The ECDC’s Director Andrea Ammon warned that Europe could see more cases and potentially deaths from diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and West Nile fever.In 2022, there were 71 cases of locally acquired dengue, with 65 in France and six in Spain. MBTA announces 12-day closure of Green Line’s B branch for track replacement, additional work
