The video above is from October 2019, when Goodenough was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.AUSTIN (KXAN) — University of Texas professor John Goodenough, known as the inventor of the lithium-ion battery, has died at the age of 100, the university announced Monday."Goodenough was a dedicated public servant, a sought-after mentor and a brilliant yet humble inventor," a release from the university said.In 2019, at the age of 97, Goodenough became the world's oldest Nobel Prize recipient, having won the prestigious award for chemistry for his battery work."My share of the Nobel prize will go to my University [of Texas at Austin] to support the people who work there," Goodenough said at the time. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Brian Barnett, a former Johnston funeral home director accused of mishandling remains, was sentenced to two and 1/3 to seven years in prison today. Police say they found decomposed remains that surviving loved ones had paid the former funeral home director to cremate. A key highway route linking Colorado’s Front Range urban corridor to mountain areas northwest of metro Denver, including Rocky Mountain National Park, was reopened Monday after a massive rockslide forced a 12-day closure.Colorado Department of Transportation officials declared Colorado 7 between Lyons and Allenspark open on Twitter Monday morning.Rocks hurtling down to the highway, following a period of heavy rain, blocked the roadway on June 14. CDOT crews have been blasting away boulders as big as shipping containers. COLORADO SPRINGS — A 23-year-old suspect pleaded guilty Monday to carrying out a mass shooting at a Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub last year that killed five people and injured 22 others.Anderson Aldrich pleaded guilty in the Nov. 19 attack at Club Q during his arraignment in El Paso County District Court on Monday. Authorities in San Bernardino County are expected to release more information early this week about the human remains found by hikers in the Mt. Baldy wilderness – an area where crews have been searching for missing British actor Julian Sands.The remains were discovered Saturday morning and transported to the county coroner for identification, the sheriff's department said. Man robbed, shot, left to die in San Bernardino County desert, sheriff's department says

A man was robbed and shot in Apple Valley, then left in the desert near Landers, where his body was found, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.The unidentified man was reportedly robbed and shot at least one time in the 21600 block of Roundup Way a few minutes after midnight Sunday, officials said in a news release. Deputies learned that the victim was then taken to and left at "an unknown desert area," the release said.At 5:25 p.m., an off-road vehicle rider found a dead man near Old Woman Springs Road in Landers."Investigators believe the deceased male to be the shooting victim. Cabazon man shoots sister, then self in Riverside County, says sheriff's department

A Riverside County man shot and killed his sister and then himself on Sunday afternoon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. At 4:40 p.m., deputies found 36-year-old Rose V. Fidler inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of Elm Street in Cabazon, where she had been shot to death, authorities said in a news release.While responding to that shooting, deputies were called to the 5200 block of Riza Avenue, where 40-year-old Leonard Gamez was dead after "suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," officials added."Investigators determined both incidents are related based on witness statements and evidence located at both scenes," said the release, which added that Gamez is Fidler's brother.No details regarding a possible motive were released by investigators.Anyone with information is encouraged to call Lead Investigator J.
